I’m out of town for a few days for a conference, but I will be back on Monday and I’ll tell you all about it.  In fact, I’m taking Tess the Photographer with me, so…yay, pictures!  Today, please welcome guest blogger Annie Schrader.  Annie is a great friend, a great baker and an excellent blogger.  I love her take on life (and I especially share her love of fashion blogs!)  Check out the rest of her stuff at www.sweetannieskitchenblog.wordpress.com

Why Jesus Gave Us Fashion Blogs

Something about the month of April being only a few short weeks away makes me think of one thing…

A change in wardrobe!

I am over the moon excited for new spring colors and fashions to take shape under the sun that will soon shine consistently!  And that brings me to this simple statement:

“I am far from an expert on fashion, but I am an enthusiastic lover of it.”

I seriously wish that I came by great fashion choices naturally.  I envy those that can walk into a clothing store and see a certain piece not just for what it is relaxing on the hangar, but for all of the potential it possesses.  Thankfully those that have an eye for great fashion have been around for ages, to lend those of us that love it an extremely helpful hand.  From Audrey Hepburn’s simple ballet flats and pearls, to Marilyn Monroe’s ballerina style gowns, Jackie O’s oversized sunglasses, to Brigitte Bardot’s 60s chic, and more recently, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Manalos…fashion icons have guided us in our design choices for years.

It’s only been the last decade that fashion and style blogs have joined the ranks of those giving us the latest and greatest, and I for one could not be happier!  These blogs are a huge weakness for me as I pore over the most lovely dresses, shoes, and accessories, losing track of precious time.  However, with as much time as I may waste reading them, there are still reasons for which I believe Jesus Himself gave us the wonderfulness that are fashion blogs.  Here are the 5 reasons fashion and style blogs are worth the read:

  1. Color notoriety–they help advance the argument for colors such as mustard yellow, tangerine orange, and the basic nude that have taken a back seat for far too long.  With fabulous colors such as these existing in the crayon box, there is no reason why they should hide behind the classics.
  2. Round Two!–they help to explain the reasons behind the return of high-waisted pants, fluorescent colors, and off the shoulder tops.  And let’s be honest…most times an explanation is only the tip of the iceberg in an attempt to convince us that these are worth a second time around.
  3. Mix & Mash-Up–they give us the okay to wear that polka-dot top with our favorite floral skirt, going against everything your mother ever told you when you were five years old and starting to pick out your own outfits.
  4. Budget-wise–they show us how to wear the latest fashion trends at a price that doesn’t leave us eating Cup-O-Noodles for the rest of the month.
  5. Normal is normal–they remind us that you don’t have to be 85 lbs. and 6’1″ to look good in the latest fashion trends you see on the runways.  Reading a fashion or style blog more often paints a picture of normality, leaving us with a feeling of fashion forward hope.

There’s no doubt about it, fashion and style blogs are a guilty pleasure created to keep us well-informed, and since spring and summer fashion trends are just around the corner…I’m all in!

  1. Could you share some links to such wonderful fashion blogs? I don’t normally read any, but that’s mostly because I don’t know where the good ones are. 🙂

  3. Love this Annie! Thanks for giving us another reason to look on this new season with greater delight AND fashion forward hope. 🙂

  4. WOW Girl I have to say I have never been so challenged or inspired in my entire life. (43 years but only 25 of which I was actually doing the math with any accuracy!) The challenge now is to relate to my family w/o chasing them away with my crazed enthusiasm. You left with our group of women a charge to MOVE ahead, a charge that has been on my heart and was confirmed at the weekend retreat! Rest, love your man and keep up the fight…He is amazing in you!

    • Ah, Laurie – thanks so much. It was such a blessing for Tess & I to be with you this weekend. I’m so glad you feel charged and ready to ruuuuummmbbblllleee. 🙂

      Bless you!
