Hi friends, my dear daughter, Victoria is stepping in today to guest post.  Her dream with Steve is to see the Lion King on Broadway.  However, when a chance came up for her to do something beautifully eternal with her time, energy and money we all knew that it was right for her to seize this opportunity and delay her trip with Steve.  She’s a great example to me of well-ordered priorities and even if you have no interest in supporting her trip – I thought you’d enjoy reading this because this girl writes a good letter!

Dear Bo’s Blog Readers and Great Aunt Myrtle,

I have exciting news! This Autumn I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve on a mission trip with my church, City Harvest Church. I’ll be leaving on (the fast approaching) November 11th to serve the people of Grace Village in Haiti. We will spend one week meeting the needs of the people there in practical ways. We are going as a team with an organization called Forward Edge International that is already there and will set us straight to work on the multiple projects they have established in Haiti at this moment.

We will be one step in a process of making a lasting difference in the community. Construction, trash pick-up, and preparing and serving what is, for many of the refugee children, their one daily meal, are all on our itinerary.

More than just giving of my time and labor, I am increasingly ecstatic about the opportunity be sharing God’s love in the midst of impossible hardship. This past year has been the hardest of the 21 I have lived. I watched my Dad become sick, go through the diagnostic process where we learned he has ALS, and watched my family adjust and grow around the new situation we never saw coming. This year, I understand what it is to watch your whole world shake underneath you and wondering what will be left standing when the shaking stops.

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of Haiti at this time in history, when they have been forced as a nation into the saving hand of God. In my own timeline, I am thankful for the opportunity to take the strength I’ve gained from my family’s trials and use it to make a practical and eternal change in someone else’s.

All this brings us unavoidably to the money part(I know you saw it coming, cunning reader that you are). As it happens, it’s quite expensive to travel out of the country and do the work of our Lord. So I must ask, please support me financially on this endeavor. Please help me get there and (please, please, please) get back. Happily, it’s tax deductible and easy!

Just go to this link and give whatever you’d like online: http://www.forwardedge.org/teamfees/donate.php (select City Harvest Church in the Team drop down, then select Victoria Stern, and enter your amount and info)

See? Easy pie.

Now, because I hate talking about money, let’s end on a different topic. While I won’t lie and say I don’t need support, I will be honest and say, I would really, sincerely, appreciate some prayer. We’re leaving in about a week and I’m nervous. I forgot when I signed up that I was agreeing to go to a different country where they speak a different language and have different customs. I forgot that they are hurting very badly. I forgot that I was shipping myself off to a place where the Devil has hung around with great success for quite a long time. It’s a big, nerve wracking thing that I can’t wait to do and I’d really like you to stand with me believing that God will protect our whole team, keep all logistics untangled, and bless every single word we speak in His name to the hearts of His people.

Thank you very much for standing with us. We are so excited to see what God will do!

Sincerely,

 Victoria Stern
