I’m working semi-feverishly (feverishly-ish?) this week, finishing up writing my upcoming bible study, Beautiful Battlefields.  As you may know, my life has been fully immersed for the past good long while, studying the principles of battle while simultaneously hearing  bullets whiz by my very own head.

I firmly believe that battle seasons in our lives can produce amazing things in us, but that they are primarily good for where they lead us which is:  back to peace and rest.  While God uses the battles we face for His glory and our good, He never meant for us to live on the battlefield forever.

I ran into this quote by none other than General George Armstrong Custer:

“I would be willing, yes glad, to see a battle every day during my life.”

Yeesh. Come on, Custer, buy a board game already.

As I was pondering all this today I thought maybe somebody needed to hear this: when the battle is over, get off the fighting field for goodness sake. Go home.  Live in peace.  You were made for that.

Believing for Life Beyond Battle,

Bo

P.S.  Bend friends:  Beautiful Battlefields kicks off on September 11 at 9:00 a.m. at Westside and the night study starts September 18 at 6:30.  I would love, love, love to see you there!

  1. I love this. I’m learning right now to recognize and accept the blessings the Lord brings my way and just enjoy them. We’re in a war, but there are rests between battles. Planning and preparing and blessing live there. Without a break, we would surely die.
God is so good. You’re a great writer.

  2. Thanks for this message of hope..looking forward to the rest that is coming!! Thanks for also being a mighty warrior that I get to fight next too!!

  3. Bo, I look forward to your every blog. I don’t always “reply,” but I always read, and I am always blessed.

  4. “Yeesh. Come on, Custer, buy a board game already.”
Okay, this made me seriously laugh out loud. 🙂

I often think about people who are consumed by battles. It seems that they cannot function without some kind of conflict in their life. I also wonder what the fascination is with living their life this way. It can’t possibly be fulfilling or happy. Surely there are more positive topics to focus on!

Those are the people who need Battleship…or Risk.
