Over the past two years, as you well know by now, I have been working on wrestling the story of God’s triumph on our battlefield into words that would make chapters that would make a book.  My deepest dream has been that it would – hopefully – fall into the hands of many others who find themselves in a fierce fight and are wondering if they’ll live to see another day.  I tried to write the book that I wish I could have read in the weeks right after my world fell apart.

This book is not about having my name on the cover of something.

It’s not about revenue.

It’s not about building a bigger platform.

There’s something about this life-and-death battle that has leveled those things flat and left me in this desperately divine place where all that really matters is that this mess that we’re in is somehow able to rescue many others.  “For the saving of many lives” has been the redemption song of this journey through the shadowy valley.

Here’s a little snippet from the book itself:

We too often forget that people will also follow our grief to get to Jesus. They will watch us on the day our spouse walks out the door or the business goes bankrupt or the child runs away or we receive an ominous diagnosis. They will watch and they will look to see if the God we preached on our best day can sustain us on the hardest one.

We all suffer, but those who know Christ should suffer with hope so that a watching world can see that He is a very present help in times of trouble. We may wish for a God who will keep us out of all affliction, but isn’t it wonderful to become acquainted with the One who goes with us into the heart of the fight, and then uses it for something beautiful?

{Beautiful Battlefields}

And that is the heart of why I wrote this book. So that many could find beauty in their hardest fight.  NavPress has been a dream to work with in getting this book out and the official release date is February 15, 2013.  If you’d like to give the book as a Christmas gift  – do not fear – there is a way!  We have created a Christmas card to give your friends that will let them know that Christmas is being extended this year.  Here’s a look:

And it says this:

If you’d like to give the book for Christmas, just do these simple things:

  1. Pre-order on Amazon or Barnes & Noble (you can put your friend’s shipping address in and it’ll go right to her or him when the book is released.)
  2. Send me an email and let me know how many books you pre-ordered and I will send you a card for each one (the cards are free.)
  3. Give the card to your friend!

Easy peasy!  The book is currently selling for under $9, so it’s well-priced gift that will pack a long-term punch.

Thank you for listening…I will tell you that this “get the word out about the book” process is really hard for me.  Self-promoting gives me hives.  But this message?  Is my life . It’s really important to me.  I feel certain that while I may write other books, I’ll never write one with so many of my own tears on the pages.  So I have to keep thinking of this not as promoting myself or a book, but as promoting hope and God’s goodness in every single story.   He is good, does good and I will shamelessly advertise that message til the day I die.

With hope,

Bo

  1. That was a good read t his morning, Ray and I were talking about that , his family is not saved, and through this four year battle of unemployment with him we know that his family is watching us go through this battle to see if the God we serve is helping us and indeed God is with us , that was just a nice confirmation today.

  2. Thanks, Cathy. Praying for peace and joy to fill you today.
