I read this post this weekend and – not gonna lie – it was discouraging.  I wondered how many women were reading that article through streaming tears, thinking, “That’s me.  That’s my kid.”  I found myself asking: what now?  What do we do with this information?

So, I’m dreaming out loud this morning:  what if every parent of a troubled child had a reliable, unflappable, indefatigable go-to person for prayer and encouragement?   Not a person for advice, just a person for strength and hope.  I could be that person for one other person. I could stake my flag in the ground of your child’s possibilities and pray like crazy for a miracle.  I could pray for you and your battlefield the way that so many people are praying for me and mine.

Are you a mom who needs a friend with no degree in counseling, no experience dealing with mental disabilities, but a strong faith in the God who loves you and your incredible kid?  Shoot me an email.  I would love to stand with you.

Believing,

Bo

  1. You nailed it again, Bo. Hope, prayer, and encouragement are what parents need most, whether their children have “special needs” or not. The battle is mine, but having friends like you, standing in the gap for us when I just don’t have the strength to keep breathing, is more precious than all of the advice in the world. Love you and your wonderful family! Know that you are in our prayers always.

  2. I too would Love to pray for a mom who needs an extra touch from Him …

  3. Yes, you would, Bo. Hope all who need prayer will contact at least one who will commit to prayer. This is the time when we all need it – to stand together to ward off what the enemy intends. Thank you, Bo. Love Susie

  4. If you receive more requests than one person can handle-send one my way. I will stake my flag in the ground for a child, too.

  5. During our difficult years in parenting our home group…. Jesus with skin-many of them, were what saved us and maintained our sanity. At the peak of it all, the moment the police detectives were at our home, a friend phoned – spontaneously, directed by the holy spirit for sure! Prayers and a supportive person who is non-judgmental is vital. In our case, God/good prevailed, thanks to so many who had faith to believe for it. at a time when all we could do was keep on breathing.

  6. Standing In The Gap: Babie Mason (lyrics)

I heard that you were hurting
    That you were suffering pain
But I didn’t dare just turn my head
    And look the other way
For when your heart is aching
    My heart is aching too
Let me help you bear your burden
That’s the least that I can do
    CHORUS
I’ll be standing in the gap for you
Just remember someone, somewhere is praying for you
    Calling out your name
    Praying for your strength
I’ll be standing in the gap for you
Right now you may be troubled
But everything will work out fine
For the Spirit knows before you speak
What is on your heart and mind
    So I’ll be interceding
    Til your standing strong again
    The peace that passes understanding
Is going to be yours, but until then
    CHORUS
    So hang on my friend
    It won’t be long
    And you have the strength
    To carry on
For when two or three are walking together
It will be a much lighter load
For isn’t that what a brother and a sister are for!

  7. Bo,

First, let me say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for this post! My husband and I could use one more or 100 more pray warriors for our son…Yes, every thing I have read bout this past Friday scares me to death…that the shooter could be my kid!
We are in the very long process of weeding through all the difficult with our son who just does not fitting in the world around him. He would love “one” friend to just hang out with!
Our son has not be diagnosed with anything other TBI…trumatic brain injury, but as parents I know deep down he is stuffering from something more!
No matter what the medical term is…he is our son, our oldest boy who would just love to play baseball w/out being made fun of or just walk in the halls of school w/out being pushed or called names.
So, yes please Pray for him and for God to take ahold in his life and show him he is special and this life he has been given is worth LIVING!

God Bless you and all you offer…
