Clanging alarm. Click of the snooze. Waking and dreaming collide. Clanging alarm. Click of the snooze. “Let’s talk awhile.” Weighty eyelids wrestle with the gravity of sleep. Thoughts. Thankfulness. Roll out of bed.

Trees sway outside the big windows. It is day.

This day.

God’s own day.

Whirring grinder. Wonderful wake-up aroma. Oh, happy day. Push open the windows to let outside in.

Three small beeps…coffee’s done. Down the stairs. Will He be here? In the Word? In my room? Snap on the light. Open the window. Listen to sounds of the city waking up. Glasses. Pen. Bible. Oh, wonderful Bible.

Ready, Set, Go. What is it today? Open the pages, find my place. Ready? Ecclesiastes…Isaiah. Set? Ezekiel. Hosea. 3…5…6. Go! Come on, let’s go back to God. He hurt us, but He’ll heal us.

Birds wake up and sing: Holy, holy, holy.

Hosea 7. Words blur. Thoughts blur. Rein it in and focus, Bo. Chapters 8…9…then Hebrews. Beautiful Hebrews. Highlighter poised. Moses was a house, but Jesus was the builder. The builder gets more honor than the building. Jesus is everywhere in Hebrews. Jesus. So much power in five letters.

Lap top springs to life. Super secret password. JULY 2008. Fresh day, fresh page. White as snow.Fingers suspended over keys. Ready for His words. Ready for mine. Listen. Hello? Tap, tap, tap. Wonderful sound. Tap, tap, tap.

As sure as dawn breaks, so sure is His daily arrival.

Words of life on a little day.

A tiny day.

An enormous, eternal day.

Keystrokes form prayers that flow out onto page and into the air all around me. Prayers, scooped up by the kingdom representative I cannot see, but I can feel. My kids in Mexico. Joe’s asthma. 143 million. Our weekend services. The price of gas. Our country’s next leader. Hopes and dreams. Thankfulness. More thankfulness. My house, my family, my beloved. Friends, leaders, hurting neighbors. Almost finished. You don’t have, because you don’t ask. Okay, two more things.

Close lap top. Silence. Breathe in the grace that flows around Him.

Praise be to God, for His mercy endures forever.

And praise be to God, for He shows up.

Amen.

  3. That is a beautiful, meaningful post. Captivating and inspiring. Thanks for writing it. I, also, am very glad (AMAZED) that He shows up. 🙂 Miss you, see you soon!

  4. What fun, Bo! I can see that God has choreographed a beautiful sequence to a recent barrage of poetic voice within the marbles of your noggin. I love it when that happens:) Thanks for sharing.

ps I’m one of the many faces out there, and usually without a nametag. Hint: Tori knows me and yes, I need to find my way to your office- something about membership…Katie can handle it:)

  5. Thanks, ladies – you’re nice to humor the wanna-be Psalmist in me (why can’t I be more like David or Eugene Peterson? WHY?). And – Holly – wow, “poetic voice within the marbles of your noggin”…? Brilliant! Totally stealing that for something useful down the road. 🙂
