Interesting debate last night. I was amazed at what had obviously been SO MUCH preparing by Biden and Palin to cram SO MANY facts into their heads.  I have recently decided that I have stored up too many facts and now they all live in a jumbled up mess of old phone numbers, my family’s shoe sizes and orphan statistics.  So, I was astounded at both candidate’s ability to pull a fact like “94 times: and “96%” and “400-million-no-I-mean-Billion” out and fling it around like they really own that baby.

Interesting.  And yet…I don’t so much think we care.  Maybe I’m alone in this, but the endless comparing of records and numbers and statistics only serves to confirm that all campaigns are full of packing peanuts.  Things like, “my opponent voted to kill kitties.”  Rebuttal:  “In fact, I voted FOR a homeless shelter that would feed one thousand children every day, but also displaced a family of kittens.  And also the kitties weren’t killed, they were euthanized.”  Stuff like that.  The kind of thing that neither you nor I could get away with in our real lives.  The kind of thing we adamantly teach our children against.  We tell them, “Tell the WHOLE truth,” and yet they live in a country where leaders absolutely have no grasp on what the WHOLE and/or NECESSARY truth is as it applies to our lives.

This week, congress passed a bill to – hopefully – rescue our country from being crushed beneath the weight of a collapsing market.  The bill, while necessary, is not good.  It’s filled with exactly the kinds of things that got us into this mess in the first place.  I’ve heard countless politicians on CNN say, “It’s not a good bill, but we didn’t have time to craft a good bill.  We needed to act right now.”  Really?  I don’t know, I’m just a girl living in a mortgaged house in an overpriced city in the mountains, but I think that we-the -people deserve a GREAT bill.  This is a moment in our history when we need those with the car keys to our country to lock themselves in a room, pray for supernatural wisdom and craft the best darn bill that has ever graced the hallowed halls of Capitol Hill.  But I suspect that they have too many of those statistics and percentages running around in their heads… and that maybe they spend too much time imagining how their opponents will use their good ideas against them in the next campaign.   Oh, how I would love to see some leaders  with the “If I perish, I perish” flavor of courage, who would step up and fight for the ideas that will preserve America’s strength and valor for our children and children’s children.

I love our country and I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be an elected official here.  But this week, I really wish we could erase what the system has become and go back to what the system was created to be.  For the people, by the people.

End of rant,

Bo

Right on Bo. Are you considering running for office yourself???

  2. I’d vote for you Bo, but not many others I’m sorry to say, because you have way to much common sense and you might actually write a bill that pertains only to the ‘rescue’ and not include sanctions on wooden arrow, testing for hamsters and kitty orphanages. Crazy I say, Crazy! But you have my vote! As a matter of fact I’d be your running mate! Stern/Hamaker 2012! We’ll take on the world and watch all the orphans get an education, not paid for by taxpayers but paid for by the compassionate!

  3. The more I learn about the government the more it seems that our leaders have to act “politically” rather than acting in the best interest or doing something that will really work. Why do we have to have a 700 billion dollar bail out that people don’t have a lot of faith in? But it is the political thing to do-do something and see if it works. Not ok.

  4. Stern/Hamaker 2012…out of the kitchen and onto the Beltway! 🙂 I don’t have the stomach for politics, I’m afraid. Now, Tara Jean, SHE will make an awesome world leader some day.

  5. Yea…I’d end up loosing all my hair and growing a beer belly or something…but I’d vote for ya just the same!
