Happy Friday!

  • I don’t know what’s going on at your house, but at Casa de Stern, the Cavalry has arrived. My family has come from their corners of the world to help us with some spring cleaning and home improvement projects.  My family, by the way, is my dearest treasure in life and not just because they’re here to clean my garage.  In the past few months, they have logged countless hours with me, praying, believing, encouraging and just saying nothing when there was nothing to say.  They have asked the hard questions, challenged me to greater faith, challenged me to greater rest and just in general showed love above and beyond the call of duty.   I’m so grateful.  And we’re going to have a really fun weekend!
  • Did you see True Grit?  I can’t believe that I did, but I certainly did.  I was trying to be accepted by my peer group, that’s my only explanation.  Anyway, there’s this scene where (SPOILER ALERT) the beloved horse, Lil Blackie, runs so hard that she falls over and (SERIOUSLY…SPOILER ALERT RIGHT HERE)  dies.  I’ve said all that to say:  my laptop is Lil Blackie’ing on me.  I can feel it comin’.  ‘Twil be a sad, sad day when I have to shoot her in the hard drive.
  • Speaking of amazing Cavalry-hearted friends:  so many people have asked what they can do to help us right now.  “What do you need?” has been the number one question I’ve been asked by a landslide and I’m so, so thankful.  The problem has been that until recently, my answer has been,  “I have no idea.”  I just haven’t been able to think very logistically and then the idea of putting those thoughts into some sort of workable action plan makes me want to go back to bed for many, many days.  Since that isn’t an option, Whitney and a team of friends are developing a plan of attack which centers around  www.lotsahelpinghands.com . This web site organizes needs into tasks so that people can pick a way to help that fits with their schedule.  It’s a great system and I just want to give the folks at Lotsa a little blog love today for being so smart and providing something so useful to people in need.
  • I got a new commentary!  And I’m excited.   That’s all.
  • And now, an ancient Irish blessing:

May your family be sweet

your Cavalry swift,

May your garage be clean

and your lil’ horsie live.

Okay, not Irish or ancient…but it was heartfelt.

  1. Bo, that made my day. although I have to admit that it wasn’t so much the lovely thought about family (though that was inspiring) It was really the not-so-ancient nor so Irish proverb that is going to keep meɜ laughing today.

  2. Bo,

    What commentaries do you use/like?

  3. Oh, now I HAVE to leave a comment — now that I see that my daughter did as well — and we were similarly inspired with the Irish / Kilmer blessing. Other random thoughts:
    — Families are the chocolate chip cookies of life.
    — My computer screen blips in and out, threatening many lil’ Blackie moments (saw the movie — cried); but by the grace of God, it would SO MANY TIMES have been put out of its (and my) misery.
    — I have a cross-stitched, framed piece that Mike’s mom did when she heard our newlywed motto, which was inspired after about two weeks of marriage: “Pray more, party less, eat better and keep the checkbook caught up.” I think I still stand by those in general, but have found that some of them can be combined, and perspective over the years has changed a few things, such as…define “caught up.” 🙂
    Love you today!

  4. I laughed out loud 🙂

  5. when lil blackie greets me at heaven’s gate, know what i’m gonna tell him?

    stay seated, trash.

then i’ll hug him and say, “just kidding!!!” and give him a noogie on the noggin.

    😀

    • Shoot, Pam – I totally forgot about that awesome line and I had every intention of using it ! Keep your seat, trash. Brilliant. She was brilliant.
