Hey gang,

SO excited about the Walk to Defeat ALS coming up this Saturday.  If you are planning to be a part of Team Stern for the Walk, please check out these answers to frequently (or occasionally or even rarely) asked questions:

Q:  When is the Walk?

A.  September 8! Walk check-in starts at 11:00 a.m. and we start walkin’ at 12:00.

Q:  Where is the Walk?

A.  Glad you asked!  The Walk to Defeat ALS is held at Riverbend Park at the Old Mill district.  It’s a lovely, paved loop that is about two miles long.

Q:  What about the Pancake Party Pre-Event for Team Stern?

A.  Aw, my favorite part of the day!  Team Stern is so blessed by the outpouring of love and support as we work to raise money to fund research for a cure.  We like to celebrate this love and goodwill by eating pancakes together before the Walk.  This event is held at 9:00 a.m. at Westside Church and is free for our whole team.  We have a little donations jar set up for expenses, but don’t even worry a little bit if you have nothing to give – it’s our joy to flip some ‘cakes for our friends on this important day.

Q: Can I check in at the breakfast and avoid the check-in line at the Walk?

A.  Yep!  (But how cool is it that the line is long?  So many people willing to give up a Saturday morning and bring their feet to our fight!)

Q:  What about team t-shirts?

A.  Well, t-shirts are hard work and I did not have it in me this year.  So instead, we’re asking ALL members of Team Stern to wear either last year’s shirt or a black t-shirt.  We have racer bibs for everyone and an awesome new Team Stern wrist band. These can be picked up at the breakfast as well.  We’ll have some available at the Walk, but it’s harder to get them distributed there because of the crowds.  Also, the ALS Association has very cool t-shirts for everyone who raised $25 or more in donations.

Q:  Where do I take the money I’ve raised?

A.  Bring it with you to the walk and we’ll help you take care of it.

Q:   What if I haven’t signed up yet?

A.  Online sign-up is closed, but we’ll be taking registrations on Wednesday night at Westside Church (after the First Wednesday service) and then we’ll fax them all in to the ALS Association on Thursday morning.  You can also just sign up at the Walk.  Pre-registration is great because it gives us a much better idea of how to plan – especially with regard to the pre-Walk Pancake Party.

Q:  Will there be apple cider pancakes?

A:  Why, yes.  A limited number of my apple cider pancakes with apple cider syrup will be available as a shout-out to the BEST season of the year.  Also on the menu:  Uncle Joe’s Famous ‘Cakes and Grey’s Dad’s Delicious Spheres (yes, I’m officially out of ways to say pancakes).

 Q:  What about coffee?

A:  Well, this is Bend, so yes – we’ll have delicious coffee.  Our amazing friends at Dutch Bros. will once again be fueling our fight with caffeine (thank you, Bill & Carol!)

Okay, that’s all the Q’s I can think of.  If I’ve missed something please write your question in the comments so I can answer it publicly – if you are wondering, someone else is probably wondering too.

To you,  our team,  we want to say:  thank you again – from the bottom of our hearts – for the love and support you have extended over the past 18 months and continue to offer so freely.  This journey has been rough, but it has led to some of our most cherished friendships and beautiful moments.

These words have never meant more:  we love you.

With hope for a cure,

Team Stern
